Open Source in China 這份投影片, 其實蠻久之前就看過前一個版本 了. 我也在 twitter 上稍微提到了一些我的看法. 在台灣參與 Open Source 相關活動多年, 我必須要說, 這份投影片內容不太正確.
I’ve already read the previous version of Open Source in China presentation for a long while, and have some unofficial comment on twitter. As a promoter involving open source related topic in Taiwan for years, I have to say, it’s not completely right.
台灣的自由軟體, 基本上早在 1992-1993 左右, 只有 fidonet 連線的時代就已經開始了, 當時台灣剛連上 internet 沒多久, 早在 1999 年就已經有自由軟體大型活動. 在那個年代, 大陸根本連 internet 都還沒有 (1997 年之前), fidonet 也從來沒有跨進過大陸. 換句話說, 台灣和大陸的 open source 發展史是完全無關的.
Taiwan local open source promotion issue is from about 1992-1993, the fidonet (dial-up bbs) decade, and the very early stage that Taiwan connected to internet, and big open source event from 1999. During that period, internet is not available in Mainland China before 1997, moreover, fidonet was never appeared in Mainland China. In other words, open source history is totally different between Taiwan and Mainland China.
或許將來兩岸 open source 交流會更加緊密, 但現階段 Open Source in Taiwan 和 Open Source in China 是完全不同的兩回事.
Maybe related interaction will be closed in the future, but now Open Source in Taiwan is totally different from Open Source in China.
